The experienced Ghanaian has returned to Roma after a loan spell with Livorno, but appears to have no future with the Giallorossi. Although Keane is assessing the player, he admitted that Kuffour will not face Liverpool on Saturday.
"Kuffour has been training with us," said Keane. "We are having a look at him and it's good for him to get a look at what we are doing here, but there is no chance of signing him before the weekend."
Kuffour moved to the Stadio Olimpico from Bayern Munich in 2005. He had helped the Bavarians win the Bundesliga and the Champions League during his stay with the club.
The powerful centre-back would compete with the likes of Nyron Nosworthy and Paul McShane for a place in the Black Cats back-line.
